6th Annual Growing Texas Workshop

Urban Forestry Innovations

Best Approaches for Managing Volunteers

One challenge to a sustainable urban forest is planting, preserving, and repurposing our city trees. We have all seen poorly planted trees, trees removed during construction for seemingly no good reason, and high quality wood sent to the landfill. We will have two workshops this year that will address these three topics.

Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Paul Ries, who will share best practices for effectively using volunteers to advance your urban forestry program. He will be joined by other speakers providing additional perspectives on this topic.

The San Antonio workshop will be held at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. We will explore a volunteer training program that promotes citizen engagement in the urban forest by teaching structural pruning, root collar excavations, and tree inventories by citizen volunteers. If you lead volunteers in your community in any capacity, this workshop will be for you!
